Is this a churro maker recipe? the quick answer is yes, you can make these churros with or without a Churro maker (also known as Churro gun), if you don’t have a churro maker at home you can simply try the more traditional method by using a pipping bag.

Churros are a type of delicious fried pastry common to find in the Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, and also found in a number of Latin American countries, the Philippines and the United States among others.

There are different views on how and where Churros originated. On one end it is believed that something similar to Churros were brought to Europe from China a few centuries ago by Portuguese sailors, on the other hand, it is also believed Churros were invented by Spanish shepherds, as something easy for them to cook while on the mountains.

In any case, it was not until the 16th century when the Spanish explorers took this delicious dish to the different colonies of the new world (now Latin America) and along the way, they came across chocolate, and this formidable union was solidified. Churros started growing in popularity among the local population. Over time, some of these regions created their own versions of the Spanish Churro, including adding cinnamon which is known by many as Mexican Churros.

Churros are prepared from an amazingly simple mix of flour, water and salt and then fried in oil until golden brown. Churros are enjoyed as desserts, breakfast or snacks depending on the country, and in most cases, they are meant to be dipped into thick chocolate, but they could also be accompanied with coffee.

5. Put a parchment paper on the counter or on a pan. Pipe dough into long Churros on the parchment paper (for this step you can use a churro maker if you have one). Do this by putting pressure on the bag and piping slowly, you want the Churro to be about 2 cm wide (3/4”).
